The Massachusetts Juneteenth Council of America is committed to honoring the history and legacy of Juneteenth by advancing education, empowerment, and cultural pride across the Commonwealth.
Our mission is to organize and unify local Juneteenth committees statewide, providing them with clear guidance, resources, and strategic direction. Through collaborative leadership, we support cities and towns in developing meaningful celebrations, educational programming, and civic engagement rooted in the true spirit of Juneteenth.
We envision a future where Juneteenth is not only a state and national holiday, but a pillar of reflection, resilience, and action — embraced across generations and communities. By fostering connections between municipalities, educators, artists, youth, and civic leaders, we strive to build a strong, sustainable foundation for Juneteenth’s legacy to flourish throughout Massachusetts and beyond.
Together, we work to ensure that Juneteenth is recognized not just as a historical milestone, but as a living movement toward equity, unity, and progress.

ABOUT THE COUNCIL
Putting Our Experience
to Work For You.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future. Its growing popularity signifies a level of maturity and dignity in America long over due. In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities and religions are joining hands to truthfully acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today. Sensitized to the conditions and experiences of others, only then can we make significant and lasting improvements in our society.
